WRRA Coached Winter Erging

Keep in shape and learn valuable rowing techniques that will translate to better performance on the water.

This winter, WRRA is offering a once per week erging session with Coach Tony Fistek on Wednesday evenings. Coach Fistek will have a structured erg workout each week to help build endurance and work with participants on technique and form.

Coached sessions with Coach Fistek will take place on Wednesday evenings, 6:00pm - 7:30pm; January 18 – March 29 (11 sessions). All rowers eligible for winter erging are invited to participate**

In addition, the master’s team welcomes any and all rowers for more informal erg sessions on Tues./Thurs. from 6:00pm-7:30pm. You can join in whatever crazy workout is on tap for the evening or feel free to do your own thing.

Drop in, hop on an erg, and get moving in these cold winter months!

**How do I know if I'm eligible?

  • If you were a member of a rowing program in the summer or the fall only, you must pay the winter erging fee of $88 to be eligible for winter sessions.  To enroll in winter erging, please click this link.
  • If you were a member of a rowing program in both the summer and fall sessions, you are automatically eligible for winter erging and do not need to register.

James Hailey Named Director of Finance and Development

James Hailey.pngThe WRRA Board of Directors is pleased to announce that this month James Hailey was appointed as the Director of Finance and Development for WRRA. Although the director position expires in November the Board chose to interview and appoint a director to allow orientation to the WRRA organization and board, the current budgeting and accounting procedures. The Board of Directors plans to nominate James in the election for a 3 year director term starting in November.

James has been with WRRA for 5 years rowing with SRL.  He graduated from John Carroll University with a BSBA followed by an MBA. Unfortunately this was prior to the JCU rowing team. James has extensive experience including (but not limited to) director of operations for a school, Chief Financial Officer for a large church community, service line leader for Human Arc, and a financial advisor. His responsibilities included establishing and following budgeting process, developing systems to improve metrics/revenue and soliciting alternate funding sources for non-profit organizations. He is familiar with the budgeting process and the Quick Books program hat WRRA uses for budgeting and documenting income/expenses.

One of the challenges for WRRA over the next years is to diversify income sources so that we are not fully dependent upon our members and SRL sponsorships. We believe that James is the person to help us develop plans and strategies to move forward in this direction and we are excited to work with him.

SRL/FRL Boat Tuck-in

WRRA Volunteers Needed!

Equipment Maintenance Days & SRL/FRL Boat Tuck-in

Saturday and Sunday October 8 - 9, from 9 to noon.

As the season comes to an end, we need to prepare our fleet for winter storage.

We have 32 boats and over 170 oars, so we need at least 30 members each day to assist with small repairs, washing shells and oars, and winterizing the SRL boats.

Please bring (2) 7/16" wrenches, screwdrivers, buckets, and towels.

Did you know that the equipment committee dedicates about 40 hours a month just on equipment repair and maintenance? We do this behind the scenes, unannounced and without fanfare, to not only ensure consistent availability of well-maintained equipment but to also provide a pleasant experience for all rowers.  We are asking all SRL/FRLers, independent crews, scullers, intermediate, and masters rowers to lend a hand with maintenance days Oct. 8 and 9.

RSVP to if you can help with this much-needed maintenance.
