SQL 1 & 2 Study Sessions!!

Are you ready?

Safety First…!

Announcing study sessions to become an SQL1 and SQL2… then after the study sessions we have tentative dates scheduled for you to take the test!

We are pleased to announce two study sessions to prepare for the SQL1, SQL2 and scheduled test times.

Reason to become an SQL1 and or SQL2 you ask?  You will have demonstrated the proficiency and leadership to be responsible for the safety of others.  Plus you can become qualified for additional activities!

WRRA has been rowing on the Cuyahoga for over 20 years, sharing the river with commercial iron-ore freighters, tour boats and private boaters.  This requires that all rowers have a basic understanding of river safety, and that the appropriate measures are taken each time a rowing shell enters the water to ensure that it returns to the dock safely and without incident.

In preparation for the sessions and to take the test please download a copy of the Safety Manual (SaM). and bring it with you to the sessions.

Please take some time to read over the Safety Manual before coming to the sessions.

Sessions and tests are when?

  • Tuesday, November 17 at 6:00 pm
  • Saturday, November 21 at 10:00 am
  • Tests – Tentative dates of Sunday, November 22 at 10:00 am andTuesday, November 24 at 6:00 pm
  • Please RSVP to info@westernreserverowing.com

Each session should last about 1.5 hour.  We strongly encourage you to come to both sessions but it's not mandatory.

Where is this happening?
The Boathouse Conference Room
1003 British Street
Cleveland, Ohio 44113

Who will be there: All WRRA members who are interested in testing for a safety qualification are welcome.  The study sessions will be conducted by aWRRA coach.

Members who would like a refresher are welcome too!

Learn to Row

Western Reserve Rowing Association
is pleased to announce that Registration for August 8th and 9th 2015
Learn to Row
is NOW OPEN!

Learn to Row
We encourage all new rowers to enroll in our Learn to Row program - a one day comprehensive introduction to rowing, including two on-the-water sessions. A direct link to registration for Learn to Row (upper left, "register to row" blue button) and additional information can be found on our website Learn to Row page: http://bit.ly/1ggix5z

Date Change:
Please note that the dates of the August Learn to Rows has been changed to August 8 and 9 (not the 15th and 16th).

General Registration Information
After arriving at the registration site through the link on the program page, identify the session of Learn to Row for which you would like to register and add it to your "cart". At that point you will be prompted to login (or create an account if you do not already have one). After that is complete, continue through the registration process, digital signing of waivers, and payment.

Payment is by credit card. There is a $1.25 Transaction fee that is added to each transaction.

Note: activenet (our registration service provider) places some "ads" on the last two pages of "checkout" for magazine subscriptions and Active Advnantage. We have no control over these and want to alert our customers to them. If you are not interested in either of those, do not make any selection. Scroll to the bottom of the "magazine" page and hit "next", and then scroll to the bottom of the Active Advantage page and hit "No Thanks". Do not provide any other info on those pages.

If you have any difficulties registering, please contact

If you have questions about Learn to Row which are not addressed on the web page for the program, please contact SRL@westernreserverowing.com.

IMPORTANT:
Participants in the August Learn to Row sessions ARE NOT eligible for any 2015 Fall Rowing program. We limit fall rowing to experienced rowers for safety reasons: the river is crowded with scholastic and collegiate rowing crews, freighters and barges are using the same water, and diminishing sunlight. These conditions negatively impact our ability to safely teach new novice rowers. The next rowing opportunity for those taking the August Learn to Row will be in May 2016 with Summer Rowing League. We look forward to having you join us on the water then.

SRL Regatta is Cancelled!!

The SRL Regatta for Tomorrow June 27th is CANCELLED!!!!

After reviewing the updated forecast for tomorrow (100% rain with chance flooding many areas PLUS high winds) we have decided to cancel the SRL regatta tomorrow.

While a few races potentially could be completed the river will likely be in poor condition with wind and debris and high risk shell damage (as well as to persons).

We are currently discussing a variety of options for the future.

IMPORTANT:
WRRA does not know if there will be ANY open slots for the July Half-Season of Summer Rowing League.  Availability of these positions is dependent entirely on whether (and how many) current May Half-Season participants renew for the second half.  You should not register for the June Learn to Row with any expectation that you will be able to join the Summer Rowing League for the July-August months.  When we know how many seats are available, we will notify Learn to Row Participants first.    We will NOT know this information prior to the June 13 / 14 LTR dates.

We have not determined with certainty whether we will have August LTR sessions.  If we do, registration will not open until ~ August 1st.
