2016 CRF Safety Review Sessions

Spring is fast approaching.

To retain your tested safety status, you must attend one of the below Safety Recertification Meetings.  Meetings will be about an hour long and will be held in the boathouse conference room on the below dates:

Saturday, February 20 at 9 a.m.
Wednesday, February 24 at 7 p.m.
Thursday, February 25 at 7 p.m.
Saturday, February 27 at 9 a.m.
Sunday, February 28 at 9 a.m.

For those who are outside the Cleveland area (e.g. away at college, out of the state/country for business) another review will be offered later in the spring upon proof of your absence for each of the above dates.

This meeting is an easy and small investment.  If you fail to attend and were not excused for the limited reasons above, you will have to re-test.

One change from prior years for CQL-Trainees, CQL's, and Senior CQL's:  you must bring current written proof of your CPR certification and (if required, based on your age) successful completion of the ODNR boater safety class to the meeting.  If you do not, your status will be suspended (meaning you cannot coach) until you provide documentation.

For those coaching out of the Foundry, CRF welcomes you to maintain your CRF safety status by attending a Safety Recertification Meeting and providing proper documentation. Aaron Marcovy is receiving a copy of this email to circulate to Foundry coaches.

Head Coaches: Please inform all participants in your organization who hold an SQL or CQL rating (there's a list available here: that they must attend one of these review sessions.

SQL 1 & 2 Study Sessions!!

Are you ready?

Safety First…!

Announcing study sessions to become an SQL1 and SQL2… then after the study sessions we have tentative dates scheduled for you to take the test!

We are pleased to announce two study sessions to prepare for the SQL1, SQL2 and scheduled test times.

Reason to become an SQL1 and or SQL2 you ask?  You will have demonstrated the proficiency and leadership to be responsible for the safety of others.  Plus you can become qualified for additional activities!

WRRA has been rowing on the Cuyahoga for over 20 years, sharing the river with commercial iron-ore freighters, tour boats and private boaters.  This requires that all rowers have a basic understanding of river safety, and that the appropriate measures are taken each time a rowing shell enters the water to ensure that it returns to the dock safely and without incident.

In preparation for the sessions and to take the test please download a copy of the Safety Manual (SaM). and bring it with you to the sessions.

Please take some time to read over the Safety Manual before coming to the sessions.

Sessions and tests are when?

  • Tuesday, November 17 at 6:00 pm
  • Saturday, November 21 at 10:00 am
  • Tests – Tentative dates of Sunday, November 22 at 10:00 am andTuesday, November 24 at 6:00 pm
  • Please RSVP to

Each session should last about 1.5 hour.  We strongly encourage you to come to both sessions but it's not mandatory.
