On December 29, 2018, WRRA lost one of its longtime rowers, Zita Varnelis. Zita and her husband Maris Kampe, began rowing in the Summer Rowing League in the mid-1990’s. Over the years Zita joined the Masters team and represented WRRA in countless sweep and sculling races and also coached for WRRA. Zita also donated her creative talents to design the Head of the Cuyahoga medals, T-shirts and programs for the HOTC and Bow Ball.

WRRA would like to celebrate the memory of Zita by holding a Fun Row on Saturday, July 20, 2019 starting at 12:00pm.

The event will start with a fun row and end with a cookout with beer. The event is open to ALL rowers; novice and experienced rowers and scullers are welcome. Sign up as an individual, a small or large group — participants will be randomly assigned to shells so it will be a great way to meet others!

There will be a $25 fee for the event and the proceeds will benefit the METAvivor Research and Support Inc. in memory of Zita.

If you are interested in participating or would like more information contact Anna at Sweeps@WesternReserveRowing.com.
