Summer Rowing League (SRL)

For New and Experienced Rowers

Program Description

The 15-week Summer Rowing League (SRL) program is designed for rowers of all abilities, from beginners to seasoned veterans, to row together as a team in an eight-person shell. Teams have a mix of male and female rowers, rowers can also request to be placed on an all female or all male team but will be dependent on availability.

During the once a week coached-practice sessions, rowers will develop boat handling skills and rowing technique, and prepare for racing in a mid-season and end-of-season regatta on the Cuyahoga River. All SRL rowers receive a SRL T-shirt and enjoy an end of season cook out at the last regatta

Novice crews:
The first week will be off the water and include an in-depth review of both the equipment and the boathouse – with a longer erg session to review technique and training.

Coxswains:

  • Experienced crews who choose to use a dedicated coxswain will be responsible for compensation of the coxswain. The WRRA Program Director will work with teams to assign WRRA approved coxswains for teams that would like a coxswain, but do not have one lined up prior to the beginning of the season.  This is contingent on coxswain availability.  Teams that want a particular coxswain for the season MUST let the Program Director know prior to the start of the season.
  • Novice crews will be provided coxswains for the first three (3) weeks of practice of the SRL season.  After that, Novice teams will be required to cox themselves or secure a coxswain through the Program Director.
