Summer Rowing League: Half Session

For Novice Rowers

THIS SESSION IS DEPENDENT ON SRL PROGRAM CAPACITY AND ENROLLMENT

Program Description

The program is designed for new rowers, who may not be able or comfortable with committing to a full SRL season, to row together as a team in an eight-person shell. During once a week coached practice sessions, rowers will develop boat handling skills and rowing technique, as well as prepare for racing in an end-of-season regatta on the Cuyahoga River. All half-session SRL rowers receive a SRL T-shirt. Enrollment is limited and based on overall SRL capacity.

Novice crews: The first week will include a review of the equipment, boathouse, and erg session to review technique and training prior to getting on the water.

Novice boats will be provided coxswains for the first three (3) weeks of practice of the SRL season.  After that, Novice teams will be required to cox themselves. Teams may  work with SRL Administration to secure a dedicated cox.  Payment of the cox is the responsibility of the team.

NOTE REGARDING FALL ROWING LEAGUE ELIBILITY: Due to a reduction in available coaches and challenges posed by early nightfall, it is not feasible to provide safe and effective coaching for rowers with less than one full summer of rowing in Fall Rowing League. Therefore, members of one but not both half sessions for SRL will not meet the pre-requisite for Fall Rowing League.

SRL Sessions

Boats leave and return to the docks at the times specified below. Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior to practice time in order to change, prepare equipment and meet with your team.

The Cleveland Rowing Foundation (CRF) locker rooms and showers are available to all registered WRRA members.

US Rowing SafeSport Policy
USRowing has joined the United States Olympic Committee in its SafeSport campaign aimed at raising awareness, stopping child abuse in sport and creating a safe culture in sports programs across the country. As a member of US Rowing, WRRA has adopted a SafeSport policy designed to promote an environment free from bullying, hazing, and all forms of harassment. While WRRA is primarily an adult organization, we have a limited number of youth involved in our programs, and we share our boathouse with several scholastic rowing organizations.  We share the commitment to creating a safe environment for the entire boathouse community.
Please take a moment to review the SafeSport policy available on the Safety page of WRRA's website.
