Veterans Learn to Row Day

In appreciation of the men and women who have served our country and who love water sports, WRRA is offering a FREE opportunity for Veterans to try rowing.

Veterans Learn to Row Day*
August 27, 2017
7:30 a.m. - Noon

Sign up today!

Rowing is a true team sport that demands the unremitting dedication of body and mind, heart and soul in a way required by no other team sport.

Learn to Row is a half day instructional session which introduces new rowers to the sport of rowing on the Cuyahoga River. LTR is an opportunity for adults (18 and older) to experience the sport of rowing and determine interest in joining Cleveland’s rowing community. WRRA instructors will teach the basics of the sport of rowing, special safety considerations on the Cuyahoga, rowing terminology, and boat handling. Participants will receive instruction on basic rowing technique using a stationary rowing machine (erg), and on-the- water practice, rowing as a crew of eight.

Registration: 7:30 am – 8:00 am
Session starts promptly at 8:00 am

  • Classroom presentation
  • Erg session
  • Teams formed and boats to dock
  • Rowing on the Cuyahoga
  • Debrief with instructors and coaches.

Please share this opportunity with the Veteran in your life. This Learn To Row is free for Veterans, but advance registration is necessary for boat assignments. Learn More

WRRA Coxing 101 Clinic

Special Note for Fall Rowing - Now is your chance to help out your team (or others) and earn a little extra cash. We are often short on coxswains in the fall when all our fantastic high school and college students from SRL return to school. FRL teams go out Mon-Thurs 6PM-7:30PM. Please let us know if you're interested in taking on a team and learning to cox.

Saturday, August 26th - 11AM-Noon

This clinic will help you learn the basics and give helpful tidbits to increase your confidence in the 9th seat. This hour-long, off-water clinic will cover topics such as:
-Responsibilities of a coxswain
-Basic commands and steering
-Moving the boat to/from the rack
-Overview of the cox box and how to use it

If you are a rower who is interested in coxing, a buddy boat who rotates coxswains, or just want to know what that little person is doing up there, this clinic is for you!
